Chayse took a deep breath and exhaled through his nostrils, his eyes closed. He let the soft evening breeze flow over his face and stood very still on the edge of the cliff over-looking the forest. Not a muscle twitched in his body. All was silent, save for the wind gently rustling the trees below.
Chayse suddenly crouched, then sprang forward and over the edge of the cliff, eyes still shut and wings tucked against his body. He hurtled towards the ground, the air whistling over his scales as he gained speed. The trees below sped ever closer. "4, 3, 2,...." He counted in his mind. He was about to make impact with the leafy and viney branches. "Now!" His wings snapped open and he suddenly soared upwards in a magnificient arch, eyes opening. Wings spread wide, Chayse inhaled the scent of the warm evening forest below.
This was his favorite time to fly. Most other creatures were getting ready for their night's rest, but Chayse enjoyed how empty the skies were at this time of day; he could have fun without bothering anyone, so long as he stayed quiet, which wasn't difficult for him. It had taken him a few tries to get the timing for his cliff dive just right, resulting in a few minor injuries and broken tree branches. But that's just who he was; a Daredevil, an adrenaline-junkie, always looking for knew ways to have fun and test his limits. Not that he was careless and stupid, quite the opposite actually. He just couldn't understand how sitting around and doing nothing could satisfy anyone.
Chayse entertained himself by doing a few flips and swoops, when he suddenly noticed a flock of birds silhouetted against the sky, flying disorderly from the other end of the forest, squawking noisily and in a panicked way. Chayse stopped and hovered in the air, flapping his wings quickly to keep himself airborne. He turned his head in the direction that the birds had flown from. Suddenly another group of birds rose from the trees, and another flock soon after that. An ear-piercing scream suddenly echoed through the trees, followed by a deafening roar and a crash. All at once the forest became full of the sounds of critters squealing and howling, and the branches trembled and shook as the animals scurried and ran, desperate to get away from the source of the crashing. Chayse looked down panicked, still hovering in place. "What's going on?!" he called out, but no one answered; everyone else was too busy trying to get away. He looked back to where the screams had come from, and noticed black smoke swirling up from the trees. The scream pierced the air again, echoing, and was soon followed by a bright flash of purple light and a low humming sound. "Wait," thought Chayse. "Is that magic? What else could make that light?" He hesitated. Something causing that much of a disturbance could not be something good. But his curiosity was getting the better of him. There was another scream. "Someone could be hurt! What if there's something I can do to help?" The sky suddenly began to grow dark; purple clouds were swirling over the area where the noises were coming from.
Chayse made up his mind. He had to do it. He needed to go see what was going on
I made all of that up on the spot. ;A;
